Happy 114th Founder’s Day, Alpha Gamma Delta! Today, we celebrate your wonderful organization’s sisterhood & tradition! With over 189,000 initiated members in more than 125 active collegiate chapters across the United States it is no wonder the amount of dedication your sisters have for your organization!
On May 30, 1904, Alpha Gamma Delta was founded at Syracuse University, in Syracuse, New York. Their eleven founders include: Ethel Evelyn Brown Distin, Flora Knight Mayer, Georgia Alberta Dickover, Estelle Shepard Beswick, Emily Helen Butterfield, Edith MacConnell Hickok, Georgia Otis Chipman, Grace Mosher Harter, Mary Louise Snider, Jennie Titus Smith Morris and Marguerite Shepard (below is a photo of them).
Alpha Gam’s special symbols include: red & buff roses with green asparagus plumosa fern for their flower, a pearl as their official jewel, and a squirrel as their mascot. Their colors are red, buff & green and their official open motto is: “Live With Purpose”and their vision statement is”Inspire the Woman. Impact the World.” The official philanthropy motto for Alpha Gamma Delta is “Full Plates. Hearts. Minds.” to help fight hunger. In 2017 they partnered with Meals on Wheels & Feeding America to help end hunger & raise awareness of this great cause.
